Extreme Makeover for Waterford Elementary

by Ken Zook, Becky Black, & Lynn Simonton, Aleyda Morales, Brian Patton and Kyle

Did you hear the recent news that Waterford Elementary will be closed next year for its own
version of an Extreme Makeover? You heard it right, Waterford Elementary will be closed right
after the end of this school year as the Orange County School System gives our local
elementary school a new look. The Waterford Elementary campus will be closed for one year.
The faculty, staff and students will be housed at the University High School’s former Ninth
Grade Center for the 2013-2014 school year. In order to complete the renovation within one
year, it will be necessary to "swing" students to the other campus location. The relocation will
include the principal, teachers and support personnel. Bus transportation will be provided for all
students to the swing location. Having an empty campus will allow for the replacement of the
core buildings (office, cafeteria, media center and music/art rooms). Any modular classrooms
will be removed and new will be built in their place. The existing classrooms will be refurbished.
A community meeting will be held in April to present preliminary information on the construction
process. Should anyone have any questions or concerns you may contact Daryl Flynn at
daryl.flynn@ocps.net or call her at (407)317-3200 ext. 2989.

Important information you should know and share with others is that Waterford Elementary is
holding a “Kindergarten Roundup” on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 from 9 a.m. – noon at the
school for parents whose children are ready to start kindergarten in 2013-2014. Students must
be five years old on or before September 1, 2013 to start school on August 19, 2013. Parents
can get their children registered for school on that day and I’m sure info will be available for the
changes taking place during the makeover. Please get the word out in your neighborhood
meetings, mention the date in any communications and Waterford Elementary would appreciate
help in getting the message out. It will be a challenging but fun time for all and the results should
be pretty spectacular too…

This year, Realtors rank at the top for job happiness, followed by quality assurance engineers, sales representatives and controllers who work in a company’s finance department. By contrast, teachers, nurses and attorneys rank as some of the unhappiest jobs in the U.S., with attorneys at the top of the unhappiness list. “Real estate agents have definitely weathered quite a financial storm over the past few years,” says Heidi Golledge, CEO and co-founder of CareerBliss. “But right now, rates are between 2 to 3 percent and inventory is low, making it a real estate agent’s dream as new homes hit the market a...
